Medical Director Ireland/ Internal Medicine (IM) Medical Lead Ireland
Location - City West, Dublin, Ireland
Role &
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership to all in-country medical functions and is the
country senior medical voice both internally and externally (acting as
the Chief Medical Officer for Pfizer in the local country environment)
Collaborates with the Country Manager and BU Group leads ensuring
alignment with internal and external country strategies
Fosters a community of practice within the Ireland Medical Affairs
Groups
Has oversight of the medical functions within all BUs/Groups and
platform lines in relation to compliance and talent development,
fostering the scientific leadership
Takes accountability together with the respective BU/Group medical
leads for the compliance of medical affairs operations
In partnership with the responsible functions supports and facilitates
in-country adherence of pharmacovigilance, product quality,
regulatory, medical information and clinical activities and processes
to relevant regulations and Pfizer SOPs/guidances
Directly leads the Medical Quality Oversight (MQO) and Country Medical
Operations (CMO) team Represents Pfizer to external stakeholders for
medical topics that apply across multiple BUs/Groups; develops
relationships within healthcare/biotech sector
Represents Pfizer through relationships with local medical
associations, societies, academic medical centers, and industry
associations;
In partnership with Regulatory Affairs represents Pfizer medical in
interactions with country regulatory authorities as appropriate
Communicates the value of the MA function to internal and external
stakeholders, aligning with customer needs, enhancing reputation and
bringing medical insights into the organization (championing cross
functional working, and working with the Country Manager)
Primary CMD
_RESPONSIBILITIES_
Development, Implementation and Communication of the Ireland Medical
Affairs Strategies Ensures processes and procedures within medical are
aligned, continuously reviewed and updated to meet current and future
business needs
Ensures coordination of Patient First strategy across medical affairs
groups/BUs on highly ethical and medical professionalism grounds and
brings their input into the medical strategies and plans
Provides scientific input to the Market Access strategies and tactics
in Ireland?One Pfizer? Represents the immediate point of reference
to the Country Manager for medical topics, advises the Country Manager
on medical issues and assures appropriate resolution
Leads overall country medical operations, maintains compliance and
information flow, and facilitates the resolution of issues that arise
within any medical teams and broader medical functions
In partnership with platform functions develops cross category
objectives on key strategic focus areas e.g. on an aligned approach on
new product launches
Partners with the responsible functions with respect to responses to
Regulatory, Safety, and/or Clinical issues with potential impact on
public health, or a potential impact on the organization**Apply on

Aligns in-country implementation and execution of product-specific
non-routine risk minimization measures
Provides strategic input to and evaluation of potential new hires
across BU?sExternal medical affairs
Coordinates and is responsible for the ?One medical voice of
Pfizer? when interacting with important external customers including
professional societies, medical schools, media, government, payers,
and patient organizations/patient support groups
In-Country Medical Quality and Compliance
Ensures consistent application of local regulations and standards on
all relevant SOPs and guidelines as applied to medical activities
across the BUs/Groups in-country
Supports local country inspections as defined by the local inspection
action plan(s) and according to local legislation
Takes accountability for the CMO/Medical Affairs aspects of all
internal audits (involving other medical groups/BUs as appropriate)
Provides support for audits on Platform Lines as required
Ensures appropriate oversight and successful implementation of the
Country Quality Plan Memberships Member ?of the in-country BU/Group
Leadership TeamChairperson of the Country Medical Council (CMC)
CMD may be required to take on additional responsibilities such as:
Member of the Board of Directors of the local organization
President of the Pfizer Foundation or other PCO scientific bodies
IM Medical Lead role Directly leads the in-country Medical Affairs
(MA) Internal Medicine team
Establishes vision, direction and role purpose for the IM team
Plans, executes, and communicates the medical IM strategy on highly
ethical and medical professionalism grounds. Aligns medical strategies
across IM portfolio of medicines, utilizing synergies, with emphasis
on the data generating and the data communication activities
Devises country IM medical plans on scientifically sound principles
that will bring benefits to the patients, working in close
collaboration and in alignment with the Global Teams and in accordance
with the overall brand and portfolio strategy
Allocates financial and FTE resources to each brand as per the
operating plan provisions
Leads, motivates and enhances the performance of IM medical affairs
team and in-country solid line reports through coaching and by direct
example
Provides medical support and guidance to country IM BU to enable that
the commercial objectives of each medicine are realized through
adherence to the highest ethical, legal, and regulatory standards
Resources Managed (budget and FTEs)
Solid line reports: in-country Medical Affairs Team of the BU/Group
he/she is leading, in-country MQO function, CMO, and/or other platform
functions
Budget responsibility for the in-country medical affairs organization
of the BU/Group he/she is leading, for the Ireland MQO function and
platform functions reporting to Country Medical Director as mandated
by local laws and regulations
_QUALIFICATIONS_ (i.e., preferred education, experience, attributes)
Medical Doctor with solid education and clinical/patient experience
A significant industry experience or significant senior management
experience in any health care sector
Comprehensive understanding of the international health environment;
Deep understanding of the country health environment including its
structure, policy, key members and scientific societies
Profound knowledge of relevant international Codes of Practice,
guidelines and regulations as well as applicable Pfizer
SOPsComprehensive knowledge of pharmacovigilance and regulatory
legislation and the drug development process and how these aspects
impact the product portfolio
Line management experience and general business management experience
